WELCOME

Social Workers Fraternity is a network of social workers that met and completed the Bachelor of Social and Social Administration at Makerere University during the period 2002/2005. The fraternity ideally is meant to bring together members of this class to share ideas, experiences and opportunities. It also acts as a think-tank for social workers to contribute to different topics and issues to not only entrich the social development discourse but also to shape future contribute to the countrys development.

Information is key and whoever holds information holds power. The biggest challenge to information though is that it is assymetric and not available to everyone. This Blog will act as an information sharing forum for Job opportunities, Scholarships, Consultancies among others. On the Blog we shall also share information regarding our present locations, marital statuses and the like. Please feel free to always leave a comment on the site whenever you visit it. On the site you can also upload pictures of your current likeness.

God Bless you all

Hello Guys,
I must say that it is great for us to have such a blog where we can keep in touch with each other. Human being as social creatures and relationships matter so much. The only way we can nurture and develop these relationships or networks is by communicating.

Check out that link, it might contain useful information for someone.

Thanks Nathan for this great idea.
God bless.

Hi guys, it seems many have not accessed this blog and the only way people can become aware of it is by those who know letting them informed. We would really like to know where people are and what they are doing. I know Brayo you are aware but you decided not to leave a comment. Thanks Brayo for the new emails of the guys, I will definately add them to the link.

Thanks,
Moses Senkosi.

Hello guys,
Nathan, I understand your concern but you should not expect people to catch up as soon as possible. Some haven't developed the interest but I hope people will develop the interest and the passion. I hope you will not get frustrated but you will keep on. With time I know people will get into the system.

All the best and God bless.
Moses Senkosi.

Flavia said...

Hi guys, muli how? Thanx for keeping up the spirit of togetherness. I agree with Moses that people need time to know about the blog and also pick interest in it. It's true that some people are just naturally slow and this is a major weakness coz one would always miss out on opportunities due to that. However, if we can help one another somewhere somehow, may be we can improve and build one another. So, Nathan, be ye not discouraged. Moses, you're such a frequent visitor of the blog!!! kip it up. it challenges yet encourages.

Moses Senkosi Balyejjusa said...

Hello folks,

I hope all are well and doing fine. Most of you are so quiet but Flavia has surprised me. I thought all along that the likes of Ivo would be posting something but.....
Ivo was saying Brayo needed some help for him to be able to use the blog but I think both are in the same category....... Ivo also needs some technical help. Anyway guys lets keep in touch and encourage each other to make good use of this blog.

God bless you all and Jesus loves you.

Moses.

Hey Guys,

I am excited to see people like Joshua and Nabenbezi posting comments on the blog. Wow, this is great; I had no idea of hearing from Dennis in the short run.

What Dennis you are saying is right, guys we need to update each other about our where abouts and what we are up to. I have come to believe that all those we are seeing succeding, are depending on social networks. This blog is one way of having the networks developed. Currently I am in Canada at Mcgill university still in books but next year before it ends, I will be out. Dennis if you could get us the emails of those people you are with. We have an email blog but it has become for people (Me, Brayo, Ivo, sometimes Gembe) and you know most of these guys are Muwawa guys. It would be good once in while we drop an email to each other.

Once again, I am glad to read from you. Be blessed.

Moses Senkosi.

Hi guys, this is Kolli Harriet, i am so amazed that something like this has been on. Thanks to the team behind all these. this can keep us together and united, but i think there should have been a formal communication to all the members so that they know, i feel they will be just as excited as i am. I will keep in touch and post a comment or information whenever. But i fear that being late i may be the only excited one but it does not stop me. How is everyone, i hope each one is successful somewhere. we were a good and brilliant class and the sky will be the limit for us. Nathan well done.

Am in Gulu Managing a Gender Based Violence response programme - Gulu/Amuru with American Refugee Committee.

Hello people,

This is cool. I love sharing ideas. Any business ideas to share? I decided to venture into social ventures as a branch of social work.

After working as a programs office for 2 years in Eastern Uganda, i concluded that capacity building alone will not have an impact on the communities we live and work among. We need real tangible projects that can develop our economy and livelihoods.

I would like to urge you to think more about how you can actively impact your community. Talk talk and more talk will never solve the problem. Workshops and conferences are a total waste of time and money as a way of empowering people and communities to better their lives.

With over 85 percent of all Ugandans living off subsistence farming, agriculture is a rather good way to go.

Did you know that by being employed, you are in effect a highly paid slave? You cannot determine when you will be free or what you will be doing in the next 72 hours as you have somebody on top of you.

One thing i learnt from the few Dr. Nuwagaba's lectures i attended was that we went to school not to get jobs but to become more competitive. I would be more than willing to share a couple of pieces of information about social ventures as a business. We need to secure our futures by starting a small business and what better way than to start a social venture. You get all the protection from taxes etc.
I have started a company that develops and initiates or provides people with the capacity to start and maintain social ventures. I have also identified sources of revenue to fund these projects.
Any interested people? You need to start planning how and to what you will retire. NSSF is a joke. Stealing our money. That’s one reason why i quit employment. Did you know that the employed people are the most taxed category within the entire population? And did you know that the least taxed segment is the real money makers? Even the poor pay more taxes than the rich.
Anybody interested in taking this discussion further? Send me an email to emma@mediaflower.com.

Laters.

Hi pips, any thoughts about starting a social workers'award for dedicated service? Something in the lone of the Nobel Prize but for Socail Work in Uganda.

I guess we can launch it during the get together.

Any thoughts?

Emma

hello Emma,
i think you have a point,i have been looking for business ventures for a long time but its not easy to think of some thing viable i can do. with all the sprouting kikuubo businesses and clothes hanging on the streets of kampala,i dont think i can compete favourably!!!! or enjoy the kavuyo. i would appreciate those ideas for the time being so that i can see where i can fix my acquired skills
thanks

hello there, whoever has any contacts for olive abenakyo please advise her to text 0714347012. tell her some old friend is looking for her

Hi Allen, you could compete with an already established business by studying the business, how they operate and look for the flaws in their system.

As they say, dont try to re-invent the wheel, look to improve it.

Give me a shout, we could have a detailed chat. 0772 301753
